WHY SPORTS JOURNALISM?

Growing up I was a very competitive child, I always wanted to win matches, small sided games etc the list goes on. Sport was my passion and while I had countless male idols to look up to, I never really watched women’s sports. In 2016 I started to notice more female athletes, especially hockey players and triathletes.

It’s not that my admiration for male athletes was misplaced, it just highlighted that more coverage of women’s sports needed to be shown. Fortunately, today a lot of women’s sports get coverage but sadly the gap between male and female sports are huge and hard to change. Sport is a very stereotypical based environment and it is extremely unfair for those on the receiving end of it. No matter the gender, race, sexuality athletes are athletes doing crazy things and they deserve their coverage and recognition!

I’m excited to embark on a new challenge and journey with sports journalism. My main goal is to write articles which engulf my readers with interest. I also want readers to have something to relate to and know they aren’t experiencing certain emotions and feelings for no apparent reason.
